Fan Zhendong's rational communication with fans, a model for athletes against toxic fan culture
I. Origin of the Letters
Fan Zhendong previously did not have any personal social media accounts. Since 2021, he communicated with fans through the fan club’s Weibo (which was posted using a Huawei Mate40 Porsche Design phone). Because the posting device contained the word “Porsche”, the four long letters were affectionately called “Porsche Family Letters” by fans.
II. Core Advocacies
- 🚫 Reject Fandom Culture: Opposes airport pick-ups, fan club fundraising, voting campaigns, and following his personal life. Stresses that the athlete-fan relationship belongs exclusively to the sports arena.
- 🏠 Protect Personal Space: Except for official team schedules, personal schedules should not be intruded. He only accepts handwritten letters and refuses gifts to avoid fan economy monetization.
- 💡 Call for Rational Support: Urges fans to focus on their own lives, support him through match performances, and resist privacy invasion or online toxicity.
